Yesterday’s run: 5.9 miles – Blood, Sweat and Beers Trail Run

A few months back, I decided I wanted to commemorate my first official race post-broken foot by trying something I’d never done before: a trail run. My friends Allison and Lindsey signed up for the race as well, and we set out to never properly training (whoops!).

I squeezed in maybe one three to four mile run per week, if I was lucky, and that one day of six hill repeats was a joke in terms of training for the hilly beast we took on yesterday. I found myself walking up half the hills, but aside from that, the entire experience was amazing. Running on a trail overlooking gorgeous, foresty views? Why yes, please!

Despite my lack of preparation and my hill-walking I somehow managed to come in eighth in my age group for the short course, with a time of 1:01:05.5, which also made me 90th overall. Take that, broken foot!

After the race, we guzzled our well-earned beers and headed down to the river for a relaxing sit and a cool-off dip. I more or less napped the rest of the day away, and awoke today as sore as can be. Time to stretch out and get more prepared for my next race — whatever it may be!
